Ex-MLA Ravinder Singh Sandhu dies due to illness

Ferozepur, October 29, 2021: Two times former MLA from Ferozepur (Rural) constituency, Ravinder Singh Sandhu alias “Babbal” (67) breathed his last today afternoon. Notably, Sandhu was unwell due to for the last few days and was admitted at Fortis Hospital in Ludhiana.
In 1975, Babbal had joined Congress party as a youth worker and he was elected as District Youth Congress President in 1983. In 1992, Babbal contested as an Independent from the Ferozepur assembly constituency in 1992 and got elected as an MLA. Later he again joined Congress in 1996. He contested from the same seat on the Congress ticket in 1997, but lost with a narrow margin of 1,730 votes from SAD candidate Janmeja Singh Sekhon.
In the next elections in 2007, Babbal contested again against Sekhon lost the elections following which he was denied party ticket in 2012.
In 2012, Babbal contested as an Independent candidate from Ferozepur (Urban) constituency but he lost to Congress’s Parminder Singh Pinki.
In April 2014, Babbal joined Shiromani Akali Dal in the presence of SAD President Sukhbir Singh Badal and from then on, he was a loyal party worker.
Babbal is survived by wife Kuldeep Kaur, sons Udaypal Singh and Arojpal Singh and a daughter.
