EuroSchool Airoli celebrates Bastille Day

Mumbai: Amidst lockdown, EuroSchool, Airoli concluded French Day celebration with students, bringing to an end a week-long engagement that included a journey through the famous Francophone culture, art and gastronomy. French is the second most spoken foreign language in the country after English.

The celebration focused on engaging students with the culture of France including mime art, virtual theatre performances and a puppet workshop conducted by Mr. Frédéric Simon – Director of Alliance Française de Bombay and a French creative writing competition with participants from across the country. The winners were felicitated by Ms. Sonia Barbry, Consul General of France in Mumbai. 

The event was attended by Mr. Frederic Simon, Mr. Phillipe Guillien, Cambridge Coordinator, DELF Coordinator, Ms. Nandini Fowkar amid a host of other dignitaries, students, teachers and almost 300 creative writing student participants from 24 schools.

Ms Sudeshna Chatterjee, Principal, EuroSchool, Airoli said, “The week-long engagement celebrated the ideas of Liberty, Equality and Fraternity, which is central to the Preamble to the Constitution of India, and incidentally adopted from the Liberté, égalité, fraternité which is the national motto of France. We deeply value our relations with our French partners and wish a Happy Bastille Day to all.”

Ms. Sonia Barbry, Consul General of France said, “It is heartening to see the several initiatives taken to promote French by EuroSchool, Airoli and the love of the students for the French culture. India and France have shared a special relationship for a very long time. There are 1,000 French companies in India, that employ 3.6 lakh Indians. In 2021, we aim to hold the third edition of the Knowledge Summit, a huge project to promote collaboration between educational institutions in the two countries.”
 
The day witnessed a virtual adaptation of the world famous Asterix-Obelix comic series by the students. EuroSchool Airoli has been a strong supporter of the French culture through its consistent participation in the French Olympiad, the student-exchange programme, creation of the French online programme and active participation in DELF, the diplomas awarded by the French Ministry of Education to prove the French-language skills of non-French candidates.
 
Maria Sojan James from EuroSchool Whitefield topped Level 6 and Syed Sameer from EuroSchool North Campus, Bangalore topped Level 9-10, respectively.
