Ensure every child receives Measles-Rubella vaccine in Ludhiana

Ludhiana, May 31, 2023: To further pace up the progress towards Measles-Rubella (MR) elimination program, a meeting of District Task Force (DTF) on Measles and Rubella Immunization drive was held in Bachat Bhawan on Wednesday. 

Presiding over the meeting, Additional deputy Commissioner (ADC) (Rural Development) Sandeep Kumar said that the Punjab Government led by Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann was committed to eliminate measles and Rubella by the third quarter of 2023 and asked the officers to ensure every child gets the MR vaccine. 

The ADC said that a survey of all under 5 children, and those who are unvaccinated / under vaccinated must be carried out in the district. He said that following the survey, those children will be vaccinated with MR1/MR2 with a gap of one month. 

ADC said that this immunization program was crucial which aimed to reduce infant mortality as Measles is one of the leading killing diseases among the children whereas congenital rubella syndrome is also responsible for irreversible birth defects.

Kumar also asked them to promote vaccination history checks at entry to daycares / preschool / kindergartens and encourage the vaccination for those who missed the routine dose of MR vaccine. He also stressed upon stakeholders to work in coordination for achieving the target.
