Enactus team conducts “Menstrual Health & Hygiene” Workshop 

Chandigarh, February 21, 2023: Enactus team of Panjab University, a student chapter of a Non-Profit International organization conducted a Workshop on Menstrual Health & Hygiene at Centre of Excellence Government College, Sanjauli, Shimla in collaboration with Lions Club Shimla, conveyed Prof. Seema Kapoor, Enactus Faculty Advisor.

This was 10th workshop in Mytharche series launched by Enactus team in collaboration with Versatile group, Ludhiana in April 2022, told Prof. Kapoor. The workshop was presided over by Prof. Chander Bhan Mehta, Principal, Govt College. Other dignitaries present were Dr. Vinay Mohan Sharma, Associate Professor in Govt. College who helped coordinate this event with Lion Dr. R.K. Jishtu, Region Chairperson and Coordinator E Waste management, Dr. Bharti Sharma, Convenor, Women Cell, Govt. College, Dr. Anupama Singh, Dr. Sandhya, Lion D.V. Pathania, Ex-President & Project Chairperson, Lion Gopal Kumar Vaid, Secretary, Lions Club, including faculty members of govt. college, around 300 students, 18 Enactus members and office staff, technical and non-technical staff of the college, conveyed Tushar, Vice-President of Enactus team.

Gaurav Mishra, Vice-president of Enactus team told that the team went beyond the borders of tricity to spread the message of the importance of safe menstrual hygiene and the benefits of using eco-friendly cloth based sanitary napkins over plastic based pads. The event commenced with Preet Kanwal, President of Enactus team telling about the 2 current projects of the team- Dhra, which nucleates around replacing plasticware with earthenware and Uday, which aims at curbing the textile menace by reusing cloth that would otherwise go waste. This was followed by an interactive presentation by Preet on “Menstruation and Menstrual Health”, which focused on making the audience aware of the stigmas associated with menstruation and how to implement safe and healthy hygiene practices during menstruation and the advantage of using cloth based sanitary pads that help cut down the plastic burden on the environment as well as are economic.

The presentation was followed by a street play enacted by the team members, highlighting the taboos associated with menstruation in our society and how it is our duty to unlearn such ideas and bring forward inclusivity, sensitivity and understanding around a natural process, said Raj, coordinator for the play and Madhur, event head of the team. Finally, self- written poetry on menstruation project was recited by Mridul, project head of team. 

Ainesh, Vice president (Technical) acknowledged the support provided by Lion P.S.Panwar, President Lions Club, Shimla in connecting with the college and providing an excellent platform to team’s message far and beyond.

The Enactus team also distributed cloth sanitary pads made by Enactus underprivileged community amongst the needy women working in the college and also to construction workers around, told Anoop. The team highlighted the benefits of using cloth based sanitary napkins and were appreciated by the authorities for such great work, conveyed Inayat, technical head.
