Enactus SSBUICET advances social impact through radio outreach on Jyotirgamaya 91.2 MHz

Chandigarh May 10, 2025: Demonstrating their commitment to social innovation and sustainable development, Enactus SSBUICET, Panjab University participated in a radio talk show to be aired on 13th May 2025 at 2 p.m. on Jyotirgamaya 91.2 MHz, the official community radio station of the university. The session spotlighted two of the team’s most transformative initiatives namely Project Uday and Project Arpan, conveyed Prof. Seema Kapoor, Faculty Advisor of Enactus and Vice President of the Corporate Sustainability Council, Women's Indian Chamber of Commerce & Industry (CSC WICCI), Chandigarh.
The discussion began with an introduction to Project Uday, under which 300 plus women entrepreneurs have been created. The project focuses on reducing plastic and textile waste by repurposing discarded fabrics into new products and promoting healthy menstrual hygiene practices by encouraging the use of reusable, eco-friendly cloth-based sanitary napkins over single-use plastic ones. This initiative not only addresses environmental concerns but also supports women’s financial independence. Pakhi Negi, Vice-President of team explained how Project Uday integrates sustainability with social upliftment, forming the backbone of their mission.
The focus then shifted to Project Arpan, a model of sustainable waste management rooted in tradition. Floral waste from local temples, collected by Municipal Corporation, Chandigarh is repurposed into products like sambrani cups, incense sticks and dhoop. These items are handcrafted by women-led self-help groups, promoting both environmental responsibility and economic opportunity. Harshit Mahajan, Creative Head of Enactus Team highlighted the artistic value and social purpose behind the project noting how the reuse of organic waste can become a means of dignified livelihood. The radio talk helped the team in reaching the masses, promoting the use of natural products made from floral waste collected from temples.
Jasnoor Singh, Content Head of Enactus Team stated that radio continues to be a powerful and accessible medium for spreading awareness. She added that it’s personal, far-reaching and allows them to engage meaningfully with the public.
In the closing statement, Muskaan Sihag, President of team, remarked that the team remains committed to dialogue, outreach and impact. She expressed optimism that the ideas shared during the session would resonate with listeners and inspire more individuals to join the movement toward sustainability.
