Rohtak/Gohana, October 26, 2026: Haryana Governor and Chancellor of BPSMV, Prof Ashim Kumar Ghosh, on Monday called for ensuring equal access to higher education for girls, particularly those from rural and underprivileged backgrounds, saying their education was essential for building a strong and prosperous nation.

Addressing the university’s fourth convocation, attended by Haryana’s First Lady Mitra Ghosh, the Governor congratulated the graduating students and commended the contribution of their teachers and parents to their achievements.

He highlighted the university’s journey from a small girls’ gurukul established by Bhagat Phool Singh in 1936 with just three students to an institution educating more than 6,000 young women. He said the university had played a significant role in advancing women’s education and empowerment in rural Haryana.

“Talent knows no gender or geographical boundaries. Given the right opportunities and guidance, girls can excel in every field,” Prof Ghosh said, noting their growing achievements in science, technology, sports, administration and national security.

Emphasising that education went beyond securing employment, he said it also developed character, confidence, compassion and leadership. He urged graduates to use their knowledge for social welfare and inspire other girls in their villages and towns to pursue higher education.

The Governor said no rural girl should be denied education because of poverty, social prejudice or lack of support. Parents, educational institutions and society must work together to create an environment that enables every girl to acquire skills and become economically independent, he added.

Haryana Education Minister Mahipal Dhanda described the convocation as a milestone marking the beginning of a new phase in the graduates’ lives. He said the vision of Bhagat Phool Singh had grown into a movement empowering girls through education, confidence and self-reliance. Urging students to aim high and face challenges with determination, Dhanda said educated women and young people would play a crucial role in achieving the vision of a developed India by 2047.

Haryana Cooperation, Jails, Tourism, Elections and Heritage Minister Dr Arvind Sharma congratulated the graduates and research scholars, saying educating daughters strengthened not only families but also society and the nation. Dr Sharma announced a grant of ₹11 lakh for the university library.

Vice-Chancellor Prof Sudesh said the institution had been built through community participation at a time when educating girls faced strong social resistance. She said the university continued to uphold its founding values and remained committed to women's education and empowerment.
