Hyderabad, October 13, 2025: On the occasion of Breast Cancer Awareness Month (October), CARE Hospitals is urging women to prioritize regular breast health check-ups and early screening, as breast cancer continues to be one of the leading causes of cancer-related deaths among women in India and across the world.

Globally, breast cancer accounts for nearly 2.3 million new cases and over 670,000 deaths each year, according to the World Health Organization. In India, it is the most prevalent cancer among women, and alarmingly, its incidence is increasing among younger women under the age of 40 — a trend experts attribute to lifestyle changes, stress, obesity, and delayed childbirth and not willing to breast feed.

“Breast cancer is curable if detected early. Unfortunately, a majority of Indian women are diagnosed when the disease has already advanced, reducing treatment effectiveness. Regular mammograms and self-breast examinations play a critical role in identifying early warning signs,” said Dr. Satish Pawar, Senior Surgical Oncologist, CARE Cancer Institute, CARE Hospitals, Hyderabad.

Dr. Satish added, “Awareness is the first line of defense. Women should not ignore symptoms such as a painless lump, changes in breast shape, skin dimpling, or nipple discharge. Even a small delay in diagnosis can make a significant difference in treatment outcomes.”

Early detection through screening programs—such as mammography, ultrasound, and clinical breast exams—can improve survival rates by up to 90% in early-stage cases. CARE Hospitals offer comprehensive breast cancer screening and treatment services, integrating advanced diagnostic imaging, targeted therapies, breast-conserving surgeries, and reconstructive options to ensure holistic care.

Medical advancements in oncology, coupled with increasing awareness, have significantly improved survival rates. However, social stigma, fear, and lack of awareness continue to prevent many women from seeking timely care. CARE Hospitals emphasizes that open dialogue within families and workplaces is essential to normalize discussions around breast health and encourage preventive action.

“Breast cancer is not just a women’s issue; it affects families and communities. By promoting regular check-ups, early detection, and supportive environments, we can save countless lives,” Dr. Satish emphasized.
