Ludhiana, July 11, 2023: Due to rising water level in Budha Nullah, a pully (small bridge) near Gaddowal village got damaged in the afternoon today, after which it has been temporarily closed for motorists. 

Deputy Commissioner Surabhi Malik said that due to high inflow of water in all water bodies of the state, the District Administration Ludhiana is constantly keeping a close watch on all bridges/pulleys on Budha Nullah, canals as well as on Sutlej river. She said that today also the officials witnessed that due to high flow of water in Budha Nullah, a portion of a pully near village Gaddowal under sub tehsil Koom Kalan got damaged.

She said that it was only due to timely vigil and efforts of District Administration Ludhiana that timely action could be taken. She informed that the PWD (B&R) has been asked to immediately start the repair work and the police have temporarily shut the pully for vehicular traffic.

She urged and advised the residents to not use this bridge and take alternate routes.

She assured the residents that the district administration was keeping a close watch on the entire situation adding that they were already fully geared up to face any unforeseen eventuality arising out of the prevailing circumstances.

The Deputy Commissioner said that the health department had already been asked to keep its health teams ready adding that Powercom has been instructed to gear up for supplying power in proposed relief centres, if the need arises. Similarly, Malik added that divers have also been put on alert so that they could be roped in if needed adding that no stone would be left unturned for extending a helping hand to people in case of any problem.

However, the Deputy Commissioner appealed the people that there was no need to panic as the district administration was fully at their disposal. She said that the district administration was duty-bound to extend a helping hand to these people, in case of any sort of emergency. Malik said that she along with top brass of the district administration were keeping a regular tab on the situation.
