Prize winners and officials of the inaugural Ports Customs & Free Zone Corporation (PCFC) National Day Badminton Tournament at Salah Al Deen Sports Hall, Dubai.

Dubai, December 19, 2013: Fast paced action and plenty of excitement highlighted the inaugural Ports Customs & Free Zone Corporation (PCFC) National Day Badminton Tournament at Salah Al Deen Sports Hall, Dubai.

The event was also a celebration to mark Dubai’s success in being chosen as the venue for Expo2020. The event was open to all the employees of PCFC clients and their families. These firms operate in JAFZA, Techno Park, Dubai Maritime City (DMC), DP World Port. PCFC pre-qualified service providers were also eligible to take part.

There were 114 teams in all, representing more than 180 companies. The prizes were awarded to the winners by Engr. Madiha Salem, PCFC-EHS director. He said: “This tournament further enhances PCFC’s relationships with all its clients. By witnessing the very active participation of numerous companies, we are pleased to take up the event in more wider level in the coming years and we thank all the participants, players, organisers and sponsors for making it more distinctive and delightful.”

The prize winners included Manikandan and Thomas Mathew (United Motor); Phillip Daniel/Ajay Ravi of Altadis ME & Bartec ME; Nasrullah/Bonnieday Atieza of Integrated Plastics; Shinod Kumar/George Vardeed of Micro Automation and Baker Hughes in the blue riband men’s doubles.

The winners in the mixed doubles were the father-daughter team of Clifford and Tanisha Crasto representing EMPA ME. Tanisha, at 11 years of age also won the girls U12 title. The girls under 12 runner-up was Baruni Karthika of PCFC.

The other prize winners in the mixed event were Syed Ali/Rija, representing ETA; Shanawas/Shwetha of Synergy Subsea; and PCFC’s Nazeer Hussain/Michelle.

The boys U16 event was claimed by Karthik Kamal representing Harco, followed by runner-up Afric Ali Akbar of Agility.
