Chandigarh, August 5, 2026: Dr. S.S. Bhatnagar University Institute of Chemical Engineering & Technology (Dr. SSBUICET), Panjab University (PU), marked a significant step towards promoting Indian Knowledge Systems (IKS) with the release of “The Vedas as the Origin of Technology: A Textbook of the Indian Knowledge System”, authored by Dr. Monica Prabhakar, faculty member at SSBUICET.
The book was formally released by PU Vice Chancellor Prof. Meenakshi Goyal, in the presence of Prof. Savita Gupta, Director, Research & Development Cell, Prof. Anupama Thakur, Chairperson, Dr. SSBUICET, Prof. Krishan Kumar Saluja, Secretary to the Vice Chancellor and faculty members of the Institute.
Prof. Meenakshi Goyal appreciated the initiative and emphasised the importance of reconnecting students with India’s rich intellectual heritage. She highlighted the growing relevance of Indian Knowledge Systems in contemporary education, particularly at a time when the world is seeking sustainable, ethical and holistic approaches to science and technology.
Prof. Savita Gupta appreciated the interdisciplinary approach of the book and highlighted the importance of promoting research that connects India’s traditional knowledge systems with contemporary scientific inquiry. She emphasised that such initiatives can open new avenues for cross-disciplinary research and innovation.
Dr. Prabhakar, who holds a Ph.D. in Chemistry and a Master’s degree in Vedic Sciences, brings together modern scientific methodology and India’s ancient knowledge traditions. Her interest in exploring the scientific and philosophical foundations of Vedic astrology inspired a deeper study of the broader knowledge framework contained in Vedic literature, culminating in this book. Through a multi-dimensional and evidence-based approach, the book explores concepts reflected in the Vedas and their connections with mathematics, astronomy, physics, chemistry, architecture, ecology, medicine, governance, engineering and technology, seeking to foster a meaningful dialogue between modern scientific thought and India’s ancient intellectual heritage.
The book evolved from NEP Value-Added Course, “Vedas as the Origin of Technology,” introduced at Dr. SSBUICET in 2023 with the support of the then Chairperson, Prof. Anupama Sharma. The course received an enthusiastic response from students for presenting Indian Knowledge Systems through a scientific, evidence-based and integrated perspective.
Prof. Thakur appreciated Dr. Prabhakar’s initiative and emphasised the Institute’s commitment to fostering interdisciplinary learning and encouraging faculty-led academic initiatives aligned with the evolving educational landscape. She said that the book would serve as a valuable resource for students, educators and researchers interested in the scientific dimensions of Vedic knowledge, while contributing to the growing integration of Indian Knowledge Systems into higher education and research.
