Dr. Shyama Prasad Mukherjee's Ideals Continue to Guide the Youth: HIRD Director Dr. Virender Singh Chauhan

Nilokheri, June 23, 2026: Dr. Shyama Prasad Mukherjee—founder of the Bharatiya Jana Sangh, a staunch nationalist thinker, and an educationist—dedicated his life to the unity and integrity of the nation. His ideas and his work in the national interest continue to inspire the youth today. Dr. Virender Singh Chauhan, Director of the Haryana Institute of Rural Development (HIRD), stated this while addressing participants at a program organized at the HIRD.

He remarked that Dr. Mukherjee's contribution to the country's development and the strengthening of national consciousness would always be remembered. Dr. Chauhan noted that the current central government, under the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, fulfilled Dr. Mukherjee's unfinished mission by abrogating Articles 370 and 35A of the Constitution.

HIRD Director Dr. Chauhan stated that Dr. Shyama Prasad Mukherjee was not merely a politician but also a visionary educationist, an able administrator, and a strong proponent of nationalist ideology. He made significant contributions toward safeguarding the country's unity, integrity, and cultural identity.

Dr. Chauhan added that the struggle waged by Dr. Mukherjee for the complete integration of Jammu and Kashmir would always be remembered in Indian history. His ideals, spirit of sacrifice, and dedication to the nation remain a source of inspiration for society, especially the youth. It is noteworthy that he courted arrest by defying the permit system then in force in Jammu and Kashmir, raising the slogan, "Two flags, two constitutions, and two prime ministers cannot coexist in one country"; it was during this movement that he passed away under suspicious circumstances.

Sadhu Singh, Sarpanch of Gram Panchayat Karah Sahib, also participated in the event. Discussions were held regarding various developmental issues and matters of public interest concerning the village. Sarpanch Sadhu Singh shared information about wastewater drainage, school requirements, basic amenities, and other problems and needs of the villagers. Additionally, the development works being undertaken by the Gram Panchayat and future plans were discussed in detail.

Consultant Gurbinder Singh from the National Institute of Rural Development (Hyderabad), Bharat Sopori from Ambala, Pritam Yadav from Bhiwani, interns Manisha, Arpita, and Tanishka (from Kurukshetra University, visiting HIRD for training), Saurabh Arora, and other listeners participated in the program via online mode.
