Dr. Parmjeet Kaur Sidhu Represents Panjab University at International Punjabi Conference in UK
Dr. Parmjeet Kaur Sidhu, Chairperson, School of Punjabi Studies, Panjab University, Chandigarh, participated in the Punjabi Conference UK 2026, organised by the Sikh Education Council UK on August 8–9, 2026, at University College London (UCL), UK.
Chandigarh, 18 August 2026: Dr. Parmjeet Kaur Sidhu, Chairperson, School of Punjabi Studies, Panjab University, Chandigarh, participated in the Punjabi Conference UK 2026, organised by the Sikh Education Council UK on August 8–9, 2026, at University College London (UCL), UK.
The conference brought together scholars and researchers from Punjab, Lahore, Denmark, Canada, the UK and other parts of the world to deliberate on contemporary issues concerning Punjabi language, literature, education and culture. The conference holds special significance as it provided an important international academic platform for Punjabi scholarship, with research papers being presented in Gurmukhi at a leading British university. It marked a significant step towards strengthening the presence of Punjabi in international academic spaces and promoting Punjabi studies in the diaspora.
Dr. Parmjeet Kaursidhu presented her research paper titled “Punjabi Language and Cultural Identity in the Globalized Digital Era: Challenges and Opportunities”.The paper examined the challenges faced by Punjabi language and cultural identity in the era of globalization and rapid digital transformation, while highlighting the opportunities offered by digital technologies for the preservation, promotion and global dissemination of Punjabi language and culture.
The conference also featured scholarly discussions on Punjabi in the era of Artificial Intelligence, Punjabi education in the diaspora, lexicography, and the life and contribution of Bhai Kahn Singh Nabha. The organisers also announced a major academic initiative leading up to an international conference dedicated to Bhai Kahn Singh Nabha in 2030.
Dr. Parmjeet Kaur Sidhu was presented with a certificate of honour in recognition of her participation and academic contribution to the conference. She expressed her gratitude to the organisers for providing a valuable platform for engaging with Punjabi scholarship at the international level.
