Dr J. S. Sehrawat Gets Global Honour at AAFS Meet in New Orleans
Chairperson of the Department of Anthropology, Panjab University, Dr J. S. Sehrawat has been elected a Fellow of the American Academy of Forensic Sciences(AAFS). The honour was conferred at the 78th Annual Scientific Conference of the Academy, held in New Orleans, Louisiana, USA.
Chandigarh, February 13, 2026: Chairperson of the Department of Anthropology, Panjab University, Dr J. S. Sehrawat has been elected a Fellow of the American Academy of Forensic Sciences(AAFS). The honour was conferred at the 78th Annual Scientific Conference of the Academy, held in New Orleans, Louisiana, USA.
The annual conference of the Academy is underway from February 9 to February 14, 2026, and leading experts from across forensic science disciplines are participating in the prestigious international conference.
In a formal communication, the AAFS stated that the Fellowship recognises Dr Sehrawat’s sustained contributions to forensic science, his professional integrity, and his active engagement with the Academy. The letter noted that his expertise and leadership have strengthened collaborative efforts within the discipline and reaffirmed the Academy’s commitment to promoting forensic science through integrity and justice. “We are proud to have you among our Fellows and appreciate the leadership and insight you bring to the Academy” it further added.
Dr Sehrawat has published wide-ranging research in forensic sciences, with a focus on forensic anthropology. His work centres on the identification of unknown human remains using ancient DNA and stable isotope analysis. He is currently involved in the biological profiling of thousands of unidentified skeletal remains recovered from an abandoned well at Ajnala in Amritsar district of Punjab.
Dr. Sehrawat is collaborating with several national and international institutions on the Ajnala project. These include Memorial University, Newfoundland, Canada; the Max Planck Institutes, Germany; the University of Oklahoma, USA; and the University of California, Chico, USA.
