Dr. Gurmeet Singh to be the Visiting Professor at Tashkent State University of Oriental Studies
Chandigarh September 19, 2021: Dr. Gurmeet Singh, Associate Professor, Dept of Hindi, Panjab University has been invited as the Visiting Professor at Department Translation Studies and International Journalism, Tashkent State University of Oriental Studies (TSUOS). The letter for his appointment as visiting professor for the upcoming Semester at the Department was sent by G. Rikhsieva, Rector, TSUOS to Prof. Raj Kumar, Vice Chancellor, Panjab University.
The TSUOS runs several courses which include the study of Hindi Literature, International Journalism and Translation Studies. Established in 1918, this The Turkestan Institute of Oriental Studies was the first oriental higher educational institution in Central Asia, which began to train qualified specialists in various fields of oriental studies.
According to the letter sent by the University, Dr. Gurmeet Singh’s expertise will be utilized at the Department of International Journalism and Translation Studies where he would be teaching students in various Undergraduate and Post Graduate Courses.
Dr. Gurmeet Singh has been the Chairperson of the Dept of Hindi, Panjab University from 2017 to 2020. During his tenure he was successful in connecting the Department with universities from various countries. In 2018 he was selected for deputation as ICCR Chair of Hindi Language at University of Jordan, Amman, Jordan, however he chose his responsibility as Chairperson of the Department over taking the appointment at Jordan.
Before joining Panjab University in 2007, Dr. Singh has had an active career in Hindi Journalism and has covered many important assignments including kargil war and gujrat earth quake.He is also a member of Senate of the Panjab University. Sharing his thoughts on his appointment at Tashkent, Dr. Singh said that it was a matter of honour and pride to be able to serve Hindi around the globe. Dr. Singh is also a recipient of several awards including the Haryana Sahitya Academy State Award for Literary Journalism in 2008 and Best Book Award in 2016 by Chandigarh Sahitya Academy for his Book, ‘Hindi : Badalta Parivesh’.
