Dr. Bal in International Scientific Committee

Dr. J. S. Bal, Former Professor of Horticulture, PAU Ludhiana and presently Prof. & Head Department of Agriculture and Dean Faculty of Agriculture SGGS World University, Fatehgarh Sahib has been inducted as a member of the Scientific Committee of 6th International Jujube (Ber) Symposium, organized by International Society of Horticultural Science going to be held at Bucharest, Romania from 24-28 September 2023. The symposium is being organized by University of Agronomic Sciences and Veterinary Medicine of Bucharest under the auspices of the ISHS, Romanian Academy and Romanian Society of Horticulturists in Bucharest, Romania. 

Dr Bal has been nominated as an only member in the scientific committee from Punjab and North India. The scientific committee consisting of 25 scientists from different countries has 9 members from Romania, 8 from China, 2 each from India & Pakistan and one each from USA, Australia, Italy & Kuwait. The main aim of organizing 6th International Jujube Symposium is Jujube sustainability under climate change are (i) New trends in jujube breeding (ii) Sustainable jujube orchard management (iii) Jujube protection under climate change (iv) Fruit quality, postharvest and processing technologies. In recognition to his contributions in ber fruit crop, earlier Dr. Bal was invited and represented India in second, third and fifth International Jujube Symposium held at Xinzheng China in 2011; Brisbane Australia in 2014 and Baoding China (online) in 2021 respectively, where he delivered keynote address and chaired technical sessions. Recently, Dr. Bal has been elected Vice-Chair of Division of Horticulture for Human Health, ISHS, Leuven, Belgium for 4 years term.
