Mumbai (Anil Bedag): Amid the rising incidence of head and neck cancer in India, medical experts have stressed the importance of continued vigilance even after successful treatment. On the occasion of World Head and Neck Cancer Day, Dr. Amit Chakraborty, Head & Neck Cancer Surgeon at SSO Hospital, said that cancer survivors remain at risk of recurrence, making regular follow-ups and a healthy lifestyle essential.
Dr. Amit Chakraborty said, "Head and neck cancer can recur in 20–40 out of every 100 patients who have undergone treatment. However, with early detection and regular follow-up, recurrence can be diagnosed in time and treated successfully."
According to experts, tobacco, gutkha, areca nut (supari), alcohol consumption, and HPV infection are among the leading risk factors for head and neck cancer.
