‘Don’t Hand over Life’s Remote to Others’: Prof KG Suresh to MDU Students; VC Prof. Poonia urges youth to become job creators.

Rohtak, September 3, 2026: Happiness, not material success, should be the ultimate goal of life, India Habitat Centre Director Prof (Dr) KG Suresh told postgraduate (PG) students at Maharshi Dayanand University’s (MDU) Deeksharambh-2026 orientation programme on Thursday.
               “Your life is yours—never hand over its remote control to someone else,” Prof Suresh said while addressing newly admitted PG students at Tagore Auditorium. He urged youngsters to stay away from the blind race for materialism and compete with themselves rather than others.
               Using a sharp analogy to underline the importance of time, he said, “Yesterday is a cancelled cheque, tomorrow is a promissory note, and today is cash in hand.” He asked students to use the present wisely and build success through continuous learning, hard work and self-confidence.
               Presiding over the programme, MDU Vice-Chancellor Prof Milap Poonia urged students to remain curious, question conventional thinking and use science, research and innovation to address real-world problems.
               “Don’t just become job seekers; become job creators,” Prof Poonia said, calling upon students to explore startups and innovation as pathways to employment generation and nation-building.
               He said the dream of a developed India rests largely on young people and stressed that technical expertise alone would not be enough in the era of artificial intelligence. Social and emotional intelligence, he said, would be equally crucial.
               Eminent physician and social worker Prof Yogendra Malik, speaking on “From Character to Leadership: Lessons from Great Personalities,” urged students to draw inspiration from Sir Chhotu Ram, Bhagat Phool Singh, Dr APJ Abdul Kalam and Dr BR Ambedkar. He also advised them to stay away from addictions and remain firmly focused on their goals.
               Dr Kitty Mukherjee, Director-Campus Placements at RV University, Bengaluru and an MDU alumna, stressed communication and life skills and encouraged students to make maximum use of the university library. Controller of Examinations Prof Rahul Rishi briefed students about the examination and evaluation system.
               Earlier, DSW Prof Sapna Garg welcomed the guests, while Dean Academic Affairs Prof Randeep Rana proposed the vote of thanks. Prof Divya Malhan, Dr Bindu Ahlawat and Director PR Sunit Mukherjee conducted the proceedings.
               The programme began with a yoga session in the morning, followed by a Vedic yajna at Maturam Yagyashala. Deans, heads of departments, faculty members and a large number of PG students attended the event.
