Doctors skeptical about PM's announcements on vaccines 

Jalandhar: Dr G S Grewal – Former President Punjab Medical Council (PMC) and Dr Arun Mitra – Former Chairman Ethical Committee PMC in a statement said that the Prime Ministers announcements of giving free vaccines to all from 21st  June is another subtle move to gain sympathy and credibility. This announcement has come after serious reprimand by the Apex Court. This statement is a preparation to submit the documents in the Supreme Court shortly. The Prime Minister who has woken from the deep slumber very late should explain how many vaccines we already have and in what time schedule we will vaccinate at least 70% of India's population so as to achieve the herd immunity. Till date all the immunization programs have been done by the government free of cost. We have already carried out the largest Polio immunization programme since 1994 successfully. Why the government is not following the same pattern when the situation is much more critical and serious. Moreover the prime minister has not explained how much will be the cost of vaccination at the private centres. His announcement is far from universal immunization programme. More over people have lost trust on him by now. It is astonishing that he has fixed 21st June, the Yoga day for the immunization. What is the link between the two when the biggest Yoga guru Ramdev is opposed to the vaccinations and he has full patronage of the PM. Announcing his grains to the people, he has not specified at all what will be the nutritional value of these. Government’s job is not to just fill the stomach but also to ensure nutritional value in the food.
