Do Not Harass Poor Shopkeepers and Street Vendors During Festive Season: Sunil Moudgil

Ludhiana, November 2, 2026: Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) District President Sunil Moudgil has strongly criticised the Municipal Corporation for allegedly harassing poor shopkeepers and street vendors during the festive season.
In a press statement, Sunil Moudgil said that the festive season provides an important opportunity for small shopkeepers and street vendors to earn a substantial part of their annual income. He said it was unfortunate that instead of extending relief to them during this crucial period, the Municipal Corporation was harassing them and affecting their livelihoods.
He pointed out that action was taken today to remove goods belonging to shopkeepers in Ghumar Mandi, and they were also asked to pay heavy fines. Such actions have created an atmosphere of fear and resentment among small traders.
Sunil Moudgil said the Municipal Corporation should adopt a humane approach towards poor shopkeepers and street vendors. The administration should facilitate their business activities during the festive season rather than taking action that threatens their livelihoods.
He demanded that the Municipal Corporation immediately stop actions that harass poor shopkeepers and street vendors and provide them appropriate relief during the festive season so that they too can celebrate the festivals happily with their families.
He added that the BJP's Ludhiana unit would soon meet senior Municipal Corporation officials to raise the issue.
