Ludhiana, June 17, 2026: In a major boost for orthopedic cancer care in North India, Dr. Anubhav Sharma from Dayanand Medical College & Hospital, Ludhiana (DMCH) has successfully completed prestigious clinical Observership at Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center, New York, USA (MSKCC)—consistently ranked among the top cancer hospitals in the world.
During this training program, Dr. Sharma worked directly under the mentorship of Dr. Carol Morris, Chief of Orthopedic Surgery and holder of the Jack Byrne Chair at MSKCC. The intensive program focused on specialized surgical planning and advanced therapeutic strategies for complex bone and soft-tissue tumors. He gained valuable exposure to multidisciplinary tumor board discussions, evidence-based decision making, advanced imaging integration, streamlined preoperative pathways and collaborative models of care that contribute to improved patient’s recovery and quality of life.
Dr. Sharma’s performance earned high praise from New York’s medical leaders. In a glowing evaluation, Dr. Carol Morris commended his "sophisticated understanding of complex orthopedic oncology cases" and his ability to rapidly grasp advanced surgical concepts. With this milestone, he brings global-standard insights into complex limb-saving surgeries and orthopedic tumor removals back to India.
Reflecting on the experience, Dr. Anubhav Sharma stated: “I am deeply grateful to my institution for visionary leadership and unwavering support in facilitating this clinical fellowship. Training at MSKCC has been a profoundly transformative experience. Working directly under the mentorship of Dr. Carol Morris provided me with unparalleled insights into advanced surgical planning and complex limb-salvage mechanisms. Beyond the operating room, I witnessed the power of multidisciplinary collaboration, precision oncology, and patient-centered decision-making in achieving optimal outcomes for patients with complex musculoskeletal tumors. The experience reinforced the importance of combining surgical excellence with innovation, research, and coordinated care. I look forward to integrating these global standards into our daily practice to ensure that our patients receive the highest benchmark of life-saving care right here at home.”
Crucially, this observership has opened doors for an ongoing academic and clinical partnership between MSKCC and DMCH. This collaboration aims to connect DMCH directly with international medical innovations; ensuring local patients receive world-class treatment without traveling abroad.
"This is an incredible milestone, not just for our institution—which has always endeavored in pioneering advanced medical education and delivering high-quality healthcare across complex medical specialties—but also for Orthopedic Surgery care in North India," said Bipin Gupta, Secretary of the DMC&H Managing Society.
Dr. Gurpreet Wander, Principal of DMCH, added: “Acquiring knowledge and skill from a global titan like MSKCC will allow us to continually elevate the standards of patient care and bring world-class healing to our institution. Dr. Sharma’s achievement reflects DMCH’s commitment to invest in global academic exposure and translating international best practices into meaningful improvements in patient care, education, and research.”
