Ludhiana, December 24, 2025: Dayanand Medical College & Hospital (DMC&H), one of North India’s leading tertiary care teaching institutions, has once again demonstrated that excellence in healthcare goes hand in hand with social and environmental responsibility. By planting 1,22,436 trees in 107 consecutive days, DMC&H has set a national record, emerging as the single hospital to achieve the highest plantation count within a defined timeframe.
For decades, DMC&H has stood as a pillar of advanced medical care, academic excellence, and community outreach. Its consistent focus on holistic health has enabled the institution to address not only disease management but also the broader determinants of health such as environment, lifestyle, and sustainability. This record-setting plantation drive is a natural extension of that philosophy.
The initiative was conceptualized and driven under the visionary leadership of Bipin Gupta, Secretary, DMC&H Managing Society, whose forward-thinking approach emphasizes that healthcare institutions must actively contribute to nation-building. His vision extends beyond hospital infrastructure and clinical outcomes to encompass clean air, green spaces, and ecological balance as essential pillars of public health. Shri Gupta strongly advocates integrating environmental consciousness into healthcare systems, believing that prevention begins with protecting the environment in which communities live.
The plantation drive received valuable administrative support from the Office of the Deputy Commissioner, Ludhiana, highlighting the importance of collaboration between healthcare institutions and district administration in addressing climate change, pollution, and environmental degradation.
Environmental and Public Health Impact
The large-scale plantation initiative is expected to deliver significant long-term benefits, including improved air quality, reduced carbon footprint, mitigation of heat stress, enhanced biodiversity, groundwater conservation, and measurable positive effects on respiratory, cardiovascular, and mental health. By creating greener surroundings, DMC&H is contributing directly to disease prevention and improved quality of life for present and future generations.
Official Recognition
In recognition of this landmark achievement, the International Book of Records has officially acknowledged and documented Dayanand Medical College & Hospital and Shri Bipin Gupta as record holders for planting the highest number of trees by a single hospital in the stipulated period.
Vision Ahead
Motivated by this success, DMC&H has set a bold target of planting 10 lakh trees by the end of the coming year, extending the initiative across Punjab. This ambitious goal reflects Shri Bipin Gupta’s enduring belief that sustainable healthcare must combine medical excellence, environmental responsibility, and community participation to create a healthier and more resilient society.
Through this initiative, DMC&H continues to set benchmarks—not only in healthcare delivery but also in shaping a sustainable future for the nation.
