Ludhiana, September 4, 2025: Dayanand Medical College & Hospital (DMC&H), Ludhiana, has marked an important achievement by performing a successful cadaver organ donation. Through this noble act, multiple patients received a new chance at life, reflecting the hospital’s dedication to advanced medical care and the promotion of organ donation.
A 57-year-old woman from Ludhiana was admitted to DMC&H following a severe brain haemorrhage and was declared brain dead. In keeping with her lifelong values and her expressed wish to donate her organs after death, her family gave their consent for organ donation. Their courageous and compassionate decision enabled several patients to receive the gift of life.
Under the supervision of Dr. P.L. Gautam and the dedicated medical team at DMC&H, the liver, kidneys, and corneas were retrieved with utmost precision. The liver was successfully transplanted into a 47-year-old male patient from Madhya Pradesh by the DMC&H Liver Transplant Team, led by Chief Liver Transplant Surgeon, Dr. Gursagar Singh Sahota. The corneas were transplanted under the guidance of Dr. Gurvinder Kaur, Professor & Head, Department of Ophthalmology. One kidney was transplanted into a 45-year-old woman from Jalandhar, while the other kidney was transported to another hospital via a green corridor, ensuring its timely transplantation.
Speaking on the occasion, Bipin Gupta, Secretary, DMC&H Managing Society, extended profound appreciation to the donor’s family for their selfless gesture. He said, “This act of generosity is an inspiration for society and a reminder that even in the face of personal loss, one can create a legacy of hope. The success of this multi-organ donation reflects the collective efforts of the DMC&H team, whose dedication has brought dignity to the cause of organ donation.”
Dr. G.S. Wander, Principal, and Dr. Sandeep Sharma, Medical Superintendent of DMC&H, lauded the coordination among the medical, surgical, and support teams. They remarked, “This accomplishment reflects the hospital’s advanced capabilities and preparedness in the field of cadaveric organ donation. Such milestones are possible only through teamwork, infrastructure, and a shared vision to serve humanity. Every organ donor is a beacon of light, and their decision continues to transform lives long after they are gone.”
The hospital administration, in a solemn tribute, ensured that the donor’s mortal remains were escorted with dignity and honor back to her residence. DMC&H paid heartfelt respects to the donor and her family, acknowledging their role in turning a moment of grief into a gift of life for many.
