DMC&H launches first “ROSHANI Vision Centre” at Pohir to strengthen community eye care
DMC&H in collaboration with Seva Canada, inaugurated the first Vision Centre at Pohir village under Project ROSHANI — an initiative to enhance paediatric and community eye health in rural Punjab.

Ludhiana, October 15, 2025: DMC&H in collaboration with Seva Canada, inaugurated the first Vision Centre at Pohir village under Project ROSHANI — an initiative to enhance paediatric and community eye health in rural Punjab.
The centre was inaugurated by Sudershan Sharma, vice president DMC&H Managing Society. Other dignitaries present on the occasion included Bipin Gupta, Secretary, DMC&H Managing Society; Mukesh Verma, Treasurer, DMC&H Managing Society; Dr. Bishav Mohan, Chief Cardiologist and Coordinator, Hero DMC Heart Institute; Dr. Ashima Taneja, Additional Medical Superintendent; Dr Anurag Chaudhary, Professor and Head of Community Medicine; Dr Priyanka Arora, Professor of Ophthalmology, Anand Sudhan and Prem Kumar from Shroff’s Eye Hospital, Delhi and other faculty members from the Department of Ophthalmology and Community Medicine.
Speaking on the occasion, Dr. Priyanka Arora, Professor, Department of Ophthalmology, and Project Lead, shared that the Vision Centre aims to provide comprehensive eye examination, spectacles, and surgical services to the rural population. “Through Project ROSHANI, we are committed to ensuring that every child and adult receives the gift of sight, irrespective of geography or affordability,” she said.
Bipin Gupta congratulated the team and stated that the Vision Centre will make quality eye services accessible right at the doorstep of the community.
Dr. G.S. Wander praised the project’s holistic approach, remarking, “DMCH has always believed in reaching out beyond hospital walls.
Dr. Bishav Mohan commended the initiative, saying, “This effort goes beyond treatment — it restores hope, dignity, and independence to individuals whose lives are limited by visual impairment.”
Dr. Anurag Chaudhary emphasized the partnership between the Departments of Community Medicine and Ophthalmology, which makes this initiative an ideal model of integrated community-based healthcare delivery.
Dr. S.P. Singh added that the Pohir Vision Centre will act as a vital link between the community and DMC&H.
DMC&H extended heartfelt thanks to Harpartap and Harinder Dhillon, residents of Ghungrana village and representatives of Seva Canada, for their generous donation towards establishing this vision centre. The institution also acknowledged Dr. Shroff’s Charity Eye Hospital, Delhi, for their technical and mentoring support in this initiative.
The launch of the ROSHANI Vision Centre marks a new milestone in DMC&H’s journey towards eliminating avoidable blindness and bringing light, vision, and hope to rural Punjab.
