DMC&H Doctor’s Courageous Decision Transforms Personal Tragedy into a Gift of Life

In a noble act of compassion, Dr. Tejinder Singh, Assistant Professor of Onco Anaesthesia at DMC&H, chose to donate his father’s organs, and gave new life and hope to several patients, his father Mr. Jaimal Singh Walia, aged 77, a resident of Ludhiana, was admitted to DMC&H following an unfortunate accident. Despite the best medical efforts, he was declared brain dead.

Ludhiana, November 13, 2025: In a noble act of compassion, Dr. Tejinder Singh, Assistant Professor of Onco Anaesthesia at DMC&H, chose to donate his father’s organs, and gave new life and hope to several patients, his father Jaimal Singh Walia, aged 77, a resident of Ludhiana, was admitted to DMC&H following an unfortunate accident. Despite the best medical efforts, he was declared brain dead.
 
In an extraordinary gesture of generosity and courage, his son, Dr. Tejinder Singh, along with his family, consented to donate his father’s organs. Their selfless decision turned a moment of deep personal grief into a beacon of hope for others, reinforcing the life-saving importance of organ donation and our medical team retrieved the liver  and both kidneys.

Under the expert guidance of Dr. P.L. Gautam, Professor & Head, Department of Critical Care Medicine and Dr. Suneet Kathuria, Professor & Head of Anaesthesia the Cadaveric donation and liver transplant was  successfully accomplished.

The liver was transplanted into a 44-year-old man from Jabalpur, Madhya Pradesh, by the Liver Transplant Team led by Dr. Gursagar Singh Sahota, Chief Liver Transplant Surgeon. Both the kidneys were promptly transported through a green corridor to other hospital.

Bipin Gupta, Secretary, DMC&H Managing Society, lauded the donor’s family for their extraordinary decision, stating, “This generous act is an inspiration for society. Even in their time of immense grief, the family created a legacy of hope.
 
Dr. G.S. Wander, Principal, and Dr. Sandeep Sharma, Medical Superintendent, also praised the coordinated efforts of the medical, surgical, and support staff and said that every organ donor is a source of light, and their gift continues to transform lives long after they are gone.

Dr. Tejinder Singh expressed his sentiments said that, my father always believed in helping others and lived a life of kindness and compassion. Donating his organs was a way to honour his values and ensure that his legacy continues by giving life to others. I hope this act inspires more families to consider organ donation and bring hope to those waiting for a second chance at life.

DMC&H Management and Administration paid tribute to Jaimal Singh Walia and his family for their brave and noble decision, recognizing their contribution to saving multiple lives through organ donation. The donor’s body was escorted back to his residence with full honor and a heartfelt tribute.
