Ludhiana, March 3, 2023: 3rd of March is Global Hearing Day. To observe this day Department of ENT (Ear Nose Throat & Neck), DMCH conducted a special training session on ‘Hearing’ for Medicine, Nursing and Paramedics students.

The theme for World Hearing Day in 2023 is “Ear and hearing care for all! Let's make it a reality”. The main purpose of this day is to promote ear and hearing care among the general public.

This training session included educating about assessment of all age groups.  Hearing evaluation using simple outpatient clinical procedures as well as latest Audiometric Screening and Interpretation was elaborated upon during the session.

In his message, Prem Kumar Gupta, Secretary DMCH Managing Society emphasized that the Department of ENT at DMCH has state of the art facilities and provides the highest level of hearing care.

Speaking on the occasion Dr Manish Munjal, Professor & Head Department of ENT highlighted vital issues regarding care of this organ of the hearing
•         Avoid taking medicine without prescription during pregnancy as this damages the hearing of the baby.
•         Avoid exposure to loud sound like DJ, blasting crackers in closed spaces and especially in proximity to senior citizens.
•       Avoid self ear cleaning by untrained road side individuals as increases the risk of ear perforation (tear of the eardrum)
•         Avoid self instillation of ear drops as this promotes growth of fungus as well as causes the weakened eardrum.
•         Inattentive children and poor performance of the child in school necessitates a hearing evaluation by the specialist.
•       In the case of hearing loss timely diagnosis and consultation by the expert doctor can recover this disability
