DM enforces 10 PM and 6 AM ban on loudspeakers & DJs to combat noise pollution

Ludhiana, February 17, 2026: District Magistrate Himanshu Jain on Tuesday issued a firm directive banning the use of loudspeakers, DJ systems, public address systems and all other sound-amplifying equipment between 10:00 PM and 6:00 AM across the entire district.

The order will remain in force until April 15, 2026.

Under Section 163 of the Bharatiya Nagarik Suraksha Sanhita, 2023 and the Noise Pollution (Regulation and Control) Rules, 2000, the administration has ruled that such equipment may be operated only between 6:00 AM and 10:00 PM. Outside these hours, all use is completely prohibited.

Sound levels at weddings, religious functions, social gatherings, processions and similar events must stay within the legally prescribed limits at all times. In notified silence zones—areas around hospitals, schools, colleges, courts and other sensitive institutions—loudspeaker usage continues to be tightly controlled as per existing regulations.

The administration has warned that any breach will invite strict legal action. Event organisers, marriage palace operators, DJ service providers, religious bodies and the general public have been directed to comply fully. The district police and other enforcement agencies have given clear instructions to monitor compliance and act promptly against violators.
