Ludhiana, April 26, 2013: Divisional Commissioner, Patiala Division, Ajit Singh Pannu, visited Payal, Raikot, Jagraon, Bassian, Roomi, Salemtabri and Mehdoodan mandis of the district on Thursday, to review the ongoing work of procurement of wheat.

During his visit, he told that about 10.5 lakh MTs of wheat was expected to arrive in mandis in Ludhiana district during current procurement season.

He was accompanied among others by Ludhiana Deputy Commissioner Rahul Tiwari. He revealed that about 6.13 lakh MTs of wheat had arrived in mandis. He claimed that about 88% of the purchased wheat had been lifted so far. He also said 80% of the farmers had got payments within 72 hours.

Pannu also interacted with farmers and commission agents (arhtiyas) of the mandis. He also asked them if they were facing any problem.

He expressed his satisfaction over the procurement process, availability of gunny bags and storage capacity of foodgrain. He told that the arrival was moisture-free.
