District-Level Sports Meet Gives Impetus to Holistic Development and Rehabilitation of Children

Ludhiana, September 30, 2026: With the objective of promoting the holistic development of children residing in government and non-government child care homes established under the Juvenile Justice (Care and Protection of Children) Act, and providing them a platform to showcase their sporting talent, a District-Level Sports Meet was organised under the guidance of District Programme Officer Gurmeet Singh.
During the District-Level Sports Meet, children participated enthusiastically and in true sporting spirit in various track and field events and team games. The children actively participated in events including 100-metre race, relay race, long jump, high jump and tug of war, along with various recreational activities. All participating children were also encouraged and appreciated for their active participation.
The District-Level Sports Meet provided children with an opportunity to develop team spirit, discipline, sportsmanship, self-confidence and a healthy competitive spirit. On the occasion, District Child Protection Officer, Ludhiana, Rashmi, along with staff of the District Child Development Unit, Ludhiana and Child Line, Ludhiana, including Deepak Kumar, Manjit Kaur, Sandeep Singh, Kulwinder Kaur, Harinder Singh, Sanjana, Reetu Sood, Kirandeep Kaur, Kamaljit Kaur and Sandeep Sagar, were present. 
In the presence of departmental officials, winners of various sporting events were honoured with prizes. The children were also encouraged to participate regularly in sports and other creative activities. The event not only ensured the active participation of children in sports and recreational activities but also provided them with a positive and encouraging environment.
Encouraging the children, District Programme Officer Gurmeet Singh said, “Sports not only contribute to the physical development of children but also help inculcate self-confidence, discipline and team spirit, while developing the ability to accept victory and defeat in the true spirit of sportsmanship. Such activities provide a strong platform for nurturing the hidden talents of children and enabling them to recognise their potential.”
He further said that creative, educational and sports-based activities would continue to be promoted to support the welfare, safety and bright future of children. The District-Level Sports Meet proved to be a memorable and motivating experience for the children, encouraging them to showcase their talent while further strengthening their self-confidence and sporting spirit.
