Raikot, October 9, 2026: A district-level awareness camp on paddy stubble burning was organised at Raikot to sensitise farmers about the harmful effects of stubble burning and promote sustainable crop residue management practices.
The camp was attended by the Director, Agriculture Department; MLA Raikot; Chairman, Market Committee Raikot; SDM Raikot, who represented the Deputy Commissioner, Ludhiana; Chief Agriculture Officer, Ludhiana; and other officials.
Addressing the farmers, the Director, Agriculture Department, MLA Raikot and SDM Raikot emphasised the need to stop paddy straw burning and encouraged farmers to adopt in-situ crop residue management techniques. They also highlighted the use of paddy straw for potato and other crops, along with crop diversification, as sustainable alternatives to burning.
The SDM Raikot conveyed the message of the Deputy Commissioner, Ludhiana, urging farmers to refrain from burning paddy straw and adopt scientific residue management practices and crop diversification to protect the environment.
During the event, farmers who adopted in-situ crop residue management practices and dairy farmers who contributed to reducing stubble burning during the previous year were also felicitated in recognition of their efforts.
