District Election Officers to ensure all arrangements for counting of votes in Himachal by 15 December: CEO

Dharamshala, December 12, 2017: Chief Electoral Officer HP Mr Pushpendra Rajput reviewed arrangements for counting of votes on 18 December in the State with all District Election Officers through video conferencing. He asked DEOs to ensure all arrangements for counting by 15 December, 2017 positively and also to implement the guidelines of the Commission.
He said, "Quick response code reader to be used in postal ballot counting have been provided for use in postal ballot counting. Containers for counting of VVPAT slips have also been procured and supplied to all ROs.”
He added that the mobile phones beyond second cordon of security will be prohibited in the counting. Media centres will also be set up in all the counting centers.
Deputy Election Commissioner Sandeep Saxena also reviewed counting arrangements with Chief Electoral Officer, District Election Officers and Returning Officers.
For the first time in the state, the VVPAT machines were used to ensure there’s “no compromise”on secrecy of the votes. Voting held for all the 68 seats on 9 th November this year.
There are 337 candidates in the fray , including sitting Chief Minister Virbhadra Singh and former CM Prem Kumar Dhumal, among 62 sitting MLAs, also contested the elections.
In the Himachal Pradesh Assembly Elections of 2017 Over 75 per cent polling recorded . This year’s voting is higher than 73.51 per cent recorded in the elections held in 2012.
