District Consumer Forum gets new premises at Ferozepur

Justice Gurdev Singh, President, State Consumer Disputes Redressal Commission today inaugurates the new premises of District Consumer Forum at District Administrative Complex at Ferozepur.

Ferozepur, February 21, 2014: Justice Gurdev Singh, President, State Consumer Disputes Redressal Commission today inaugurated the new premises of District Consumer Forum at District Administrative Complex here.
The District Consumer Forum had been functioning on the premises of the indoor sports stadium complex since its setup in 1996, almost eighteen years. The building was hired from sports department on monthly rent which was lacking proper court room besides facilities for the lawyers, visitors and record room.
The matter of re-locating the consumer forum was brought to the notice of the state government and district administration.
Addressing the press conference today, Justice Gurdev Singh agreed that there is a lack of awareness among the consumers concerning their rights as a consumer. He also stated that the consumer forum will have to play a constructive role in this regard. He assured that an awareness drive will be initiated soon to awake the consumers regarding their rights.   
Replying to another question regarding the problems faced by consumers while lodging a complaint, he assured that the process of filing an application will be simplified. “Financial assistance will be given to the poor and needy consumers and the forum shall bear all the expanses”, said Justice Gurdev Singh.
Manjeet Singh Narang, Deputy Commissioner, said that a new counter will be established at the Suvidha Centre for the assistance for filing a case.
Gurpartap Singh Brar, President, District Consumer Forum, informed that they received 10,340 applications out which 10,126 cases have been redressed upto January 31 this year.
