District Awareness Programme on New Labour Codes at Regional Labour Institute, Faridabad

New Delhi, September 30, 2026: A District Awareness Programme – “Shram Samvad” was organised by the Ministry of Labour and Employment at the Regional Labour Institute, Faridabad, with PHD Chamber of Commerce and Industry (PHDCCI) as the Industry Partner. The programme aimed to create awareness among stakeholders regarding the recently introduced Labour Codes, their key provisions and the compliances applicable thereunder.
The programme witnessed enthusiastic participation from around 75 participants, including employers, representatives of state authorities, advocates and other stakeholders from the labour and employment ecosystem. The initiative provided an interactive platform for stakeholders to enhance their understanding of the Labour Codes and engage in meaningful discussions on their implementation and compliance.
The programme was structured into five informative sessions, covering the major provisions of the new Labour Codes, employer compliances, and key social security schemes of the Government of India.
The inaugural address was given by Mridula Ghai, ACC, EPFO and Aprajita Jaggi, ACC, EPFO. Ashish Wig, Chair HR and IR Committee, PHDCCI & Member, Central Board of Trustees delivered the industry perspective.
Ashish Wig appreciated the initiative of the Ministry of Labour and Employment for undertaking such awareness and capacity-building programmes across districts. He emphasised that programmes of this nature are particularly important at this stage, as the 29 existing labour laws have been consolidated into four Labour Codes, representing a significant reform in India's labour law framework.
The first technical session was conducted by Minhaz Ahmed, Director, Ministry of Labour and Employment. He provided an overview of the new Labour Codes, explaining their objectives and highlighting the major provisions and changes introduced under the new legislative framework. The session focused on providing participants with a broad understanding of the Labour Codes and their significance for employees and employers.
The second session was conducted by Hemant Tirkey, Labour Welfare Commissioner, who elaborated upon the major compliances to be undertaken by employers under the Labour Codes. The session provided practical insights into the responsibilities and statutory requirements applicable to employers and helped participants understand the compliance framework under the new Codes.
The third session focused on the Pradhan Mantri Shram Yogi Maandhan (PM-SYM) Scheme and was conducted by Sunil Gautam, Assistant Welfare Commissioner. The participants were apprised of the salient features of the scheme and its role in extending social security benefits to eligible unorganised workers.
The fourth session was dedicated to the Pradhan Mantri Viksit Bharat Rozgar Yojana (PMVBRY) and was conducted by Pranit Joshi, Regional Provident Fund Commissioner-I. The session provided participants with an overview of the scheme, its objectives and the relevant provisions and benefits associated with it.
The programme concluded with an interactive Question and Answer session, wherein participants actively engaged with the speakers and raised queries relating to the implementation and compliance requirements under the new Labour Codes. The session provided an opportunity for participants to seek clarifications on various aspects of the Codes and related labour welfare schemes.
The programme served as an important platform for awareness generation and stakeholder engagement, facilitating a better understanding of the new Labour Codes, employer compliances and Government initiatives aimed at strengthening labour welfare and social security.
The vote of thanks were delivered by Jitender Rana, Joint Secretary, PHDCCI. He informed the participants about the forthcoming such events being organized by PHDCCI in Jaipur, Chandigarh and Dehradun.
