Ferozepur: Taking the total count of Covid-19 positive cases to 45, a 25-year old truck driver of Machiwada village of this district has been tested positive of Corona Virus.

The sample of the truck driver was taken on May 18 in Jammu, following which the report about his being positive was received here on yesterday. Just after receiving the information from the Jammu administration, the district administration invoked the protocol fixed by the state government.

Divulging the details, Deputy Commissioner Ferozepur Kulwant Singh said that the Corona positive truck driver was at present in Varodra district of Gujrat state. We immediately informed our counterpart in the Varodra district, which taking a swift action has isolated the patient in a local hospital, said the deputy commissioner.

He further added that the joint teams of the health department and civil administration immediately invoked the protocol fixed by the state government and cordoned off the Machiwada village. As of now 12 contacts of the truck driver including his family members have been traced in the village, said DC, adding that the sampling, survey, and other important procedures were also taking place.

The deputy commissioner said that the new patient could be traced and isolated immediately because of the coordinated efforts of the health department and civil administration, which contacted authorities in Gujrat without any delay.

The deputy commissioner said that the district administration would leave no stone unturned in its fight against the coronavirus, adding that this battle cannot be won over without the people's support. He called upon people to restrain stepping out of their homes unnecessarily, and follow the principles of social distancing, covering their faces with the masks so that they can keep themselves and their family members from this virus.  DC added that there was no active case in the district hospital as all the patients have been discharged after  speedy recovery. This patient will be treated and cured in Gujrat, the DC said.
