The Vice Chancellor Professor (Dr.) Renu Vig released an Eco-Health Calendar for 2023. The released event was graced by Prof. Yajvendra Pal Verma, Registrar and Dr. Rupinder Kaur, Chief Medical officer, Panjab University, Chandigarh.

Chandigarh, January 20, 2023: The Vice Chancellor Professor (Dr.) Renu Vig released an Eco-Health Calendar for 2023. The released event was graced by Prof. Yajvendra Pal Verma, Registrar and Dr. Rupinder Kaur, Chief Medical officer, Panjab University, Chandigarh.
 

The Eco-Health calendar is developed and designed by Dr. Suman Mor, Associate Professor, Department of Environment Studies, Panjab University, Chandigarh and Dr. Ravindra Khaiwal, Professor, Department of Community Medicine and School of Public Health, Post Graduate Institute of Medical Education and Research, Chandigarh. They mentioned that the Eco-Health calendar 2023 focuses on the motto of India’s G20 Presidency, i.e., Vasudhaiva Kutumbakam, highlighting ‘One Earth, One Family, One Future’ to create awareness and to promote better health for all and environmental sustainability.   
 

Prof. Vig, Vice Chancellor, emphasized that the calendar highlights the theme of Lifestyle for the Environment (LiFE), a global initiative by the Government of India to promote the adoption of an environmentally conscious lifestyle. She mentioned that the Eco-Health calendar could motivate adopting eco-friendly practices such as waste minimization, energy consciousness, promoting public transportation, reducing food waste, and limiting plastic use. Further, she emphasized that infographics used in the calendar are designed to bring ecological conservation and human well-being to the core of human actions and activities. 
 

During the release event, Prof. Yajvender Pal Verma, Registrar, Panjab University, mentioned that we need to build a communication network to engage citizens in environmental protection. He highlighted that creating public, private and government partners is critical to emphasize the importance of environmental issues and identify sustainable solutions. Dr. Kaur, CMO, stated that we must promote multi-sectoral cooperation to minimize the risk of emerging public health threats such as air pollution, climate change, or ecological destruction.
 

Dr. Suman Mor, Department of Environment Studies, Panjab University, stated that by using an eco-health calendar, individuals and organizations could plan their activities in advance to promote a sustainable lifestyle and raise awareness about the importance of protecting the environment for our health and well-being. Prof. Ravindra Khaiwal, PGIMER, Chandigarh, mentioned that the Eco-Health calendar is a part of the ‘Community Environmental Empowerment Program- CEEP’ project initiated under the Ministry of Environment, Forest and Climate Change, India. The CEEP is a citizen-focused community mobilization program to promote sustainable practices for better health and the environment.
