Did not keep PM in dark about 2G, Raja tells court

New Delhi, July 17 (IANS) Former communications minister A. Raja Thursday told a court hearing the 2G allocation case that he did not keep then prime minister Manmohan Singh in the dark about the decisions taken by DoT regarding allocation of 2G spectrum licences.

Testifying as defence witness in the case, Raja told Central Bureau of Investigation Special Judge O.P. Saini that he had met the prime minister and apprised him about the decisions taken in the department of telecommunications (DoT) on the issue.

"It is incorrect. I apprised the prime minister of the facts by my letter dated Nov 2, 2007," he said, adding that thereafter, a letter from the prime minister was received by him on the same day .

"This letter was also replied to by me on the same day," Raja said.

"After this exchange of letters, I met the prime minister and apprised him of all the decisions taken, which were referred in the letters and I handed over a folder also to him," he added.

According to the CBI, Raja was biased while distributing 2G mobile airwaves and operating licences to telecom firms, causing a huge loss to the state exchequer.

All the accused, including Raja, are out on bail.
