A high level delegation of Shiromani Akali Dal on Monday calls on Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Akhilesh Yadav to take current stock of circumstances at Saharanpur.

Chandigarh, July 28, 2014: A high level delegation of Shiromani Akali Dal today called on Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Akhilesh Yadav to take current stock of circumstances at Saharanpur.

Extending felicitations to Muslim community on the eve of pious Id-Ul-Fitr, the delegation led by SAD Secretary General and Rajya Sabha MP Sukhdev Singh Dhindsa accompanied by Speaker Punjab Vidhan Sabha Charanjit Singh Atwal, Senior SAD leader Balwant Singh Ramoowalia met Akhilesh Yadav at Lucknow to assess the current law and order situation. The UP Cabinet Minister Rajendera Chadaury, Principal Secretary/Chief Minister, Home Secretary and DGP were also present in the meeting. 

In a statement issued here Dhindsa said Punjab Chief Minister Parkash Singh Badal and SAD President Sukhbir Singh Badal had decided to send a three member delegation of SAD leaders to Uttar Pradesh during recent core committee meeting at Amritsar. Dhindsa said the sole agenda of delegation’s visit to Uttar Pradesh was to ensure protection of interests of Sikhs in UP besides extending an appeal to community for maintaining peace and communal harmony.

The delegation also put forth a demand before CM Akhilesh Yadav to provide adequate compensations to Sikhs, who become victim of Saharanpur violence. Dhindsa said it was also demanded that the construction of Gurudwara should be allowed as per the norms under the ambit of law.

Dhindsa said UP CM sharing his sympathy with the both groups expressed the incident very unfortunate and appealed the both sides to maintain peace, communal harmony and brotherhood. SAD Secretary General said that Yadav expressed deep concern over Saharanpur violence and said these clashes have no place in our society and it must be ended.   Yadav also conveyed that both groups should remain calm and refrain from communal hate.

SAD Secretary General also said Yadav apprised the delegation that the law and order situation at Saharanpur was fully under control. He said that state would ensure and protect the interests and rights of both groups. He said Yadav also assured that the state would announce compensation to Sikhs, who had been made victims of violence.
