Dharamsala set to be Municipal Corporation

Dharamsala, December 31, 2013: The government of Himachal Pradesh will convert Dharamsala city to a Municipal Corporation from existing Municipal Committee. If the project is okayed it shall become the second municipal Corporation of the state after Shimla. The World Cricketing Center and the seat of the Tibetan leader Dalai Lama has a population of around 30,000 in its municipal area (excluding thousands of Tibetan refugees and the Army personal). But the city has developed its suburban areas in a much bigger city.
“We can bring more modern facilities and the developmental projects from the Centre and abroad once it converts to a Municipal Corporation”, said Urban Development Minister and the local legislator Sudhir Sharma .
Sharma said that the public living around the city wants those facilities which can only be delivered to them if they come under the preview of the Municipal Corporation. He said that the town was developed as the summer capital of the British regime but was neglected after the disastrous earthquake of 1905.
C Paulrasu, DC Kangra ,who has his office in the city said that surrounding panchayat areas of Ram Nagar, Shyamnagar, Upper & Lower Badol, Uplehr, Panjlehr, Gulerian, Patt Cheliyan, Khatched, Hodal ,Tiad, Ghaniyara, Sonkanida Kot, Kharotta, Sidhpur, Mohali Lardi, Thaatri, Kand, Juhal, Upper-Gabli & Lower Daarh, Narghota, Kajlot, Sidhwari, Varih, Jakhreed, Thuthar, Chakwan, Raasn and Bagani are proposed to submerged in the Dharamsala Municipal Corporation.
