Ludhiana: Taking forward the state Government's mission to ensure welfare and well-being of the Police personnel and their wards, DGP Dinkar Gupta on Friday dedicated a series of Police initiatives under Ludhiana Commissionerate including a state-of-the-art indoor sports stadium at Police Lines and 'Book Nook', a modern library space for police families and their children. 

While throwing open a state-of-an-art Indoor Stadium-cum-Gymnasium located at Police Lines to the Police Personnel and their families, the DGP said that the major objective of this robust sports infrastructure is to maintain their health and fitness through sports and gymming.

He said that this stadium comprises World-class facilities including a carpeted Badminton Court, Yoga and Meditation room and Officer’s Lounge besides a Gymnasium equipped with all the latest work-out machines with an eye soothing view of the surroundings which will encourage Police Personnel and their families to remain fit and healthy. Specially trained gym trainers will work on physical condition, bodily strength, and assign appropriate exercise activities and create unique workout routines to help the police personnel become the best version of themselves, added the DGP. This building has been made by the Vardhman Group, as part of their CSR activity.

DGP Dinkar Gupta, who was accompanied by CP Ludhiana Rakesh Agrawal also inaugurated a Modern Library ‘Book Nook’ at Police Lines to promote reading habits among the wards of police personnel. 

Book Nook, a highly innovative reading-cum-activity area for wards of police personnel has been launched in collaboration with NGO Aas Ehsaas to promote the reading habits among the wards of police personnel, the DGP said. A brainchild of ADCP Zone 1 cum DCPO Dr. Pragya Jain.

The salient features of the Book Nook includes its own aesthetic ambience, which has educational, fictional and non-fictional books for 4 to 18 years olds besides an attractive thematic tent with several board games and indoor educational activities to boost motor activity coordination.

The wards of police personnel of all ranks (GOs to class four employees) can avail the facilities, he said adding that the daughter of class 4 employee working as gardener at police lines will be handling the reception and day to day functioning which will promote a sense of ownership and belonging.

The DGP proposed to CP Agrawal to ensure that all such facilities including Stadium, Gym and Book Nook Library should be open to the entire force not only for the higher officers. 

He also asked the CP to establish such Libraries and Reading Rooms for Senior Citizens also so that they can come there and convert their free time into productive activities.

    On this occasion, the DGP Dinkar Gupta also inaugurated the Family Counselling Centre established at Rishi Nagar here. Cabinet Minister for Food, Civil Supplies & Consumer Affairs Bharat Bhushan Ashu was instrumental in allotment of the building site with active cooperation from Chairman of Ludhiana Improvement Trust. DGP thanked the Minister for his support for the public spirited Project. 

While interacting with the Panel Members at the Counselling Centre, the DGP said that they are playing a vital role in creating a healthy society and they must focus on reuniting the families through counselling. He also announced that the Punjab Police are going to recruit around 450 Professional Counsellors and experts with the required skill-sets, who will work together with the Private Panel Members.

He also directed CP Rakesh Agrawal to make the Family Counselling Centre an all Women Staff Unit so that Women coming to lodge their complaints shall feel comfortable.   

During interaction with Media on the sidelines of the event, DGP Dinkar Gupta reiterated that preventing the Crimes against Women have been remain a top-most priority of the Punjab government and the Police and in upcoming recruitments of total over 10,000 Police Personnel at SI, Head Constable and Constable ranks, one-third will be the Women Force.       

The Counselling Centre, which has provision of 44 rooms, in-house Photostat and typing, facility, Canteen, rooms for feeding to new born babies, play area for kids, Reception, rooms for private counselling members & psychologists Doctors will also accommodate the offices of ACP's of Women Cell and Incharges of women cell from all 4 zones of the city at a single centrally located place, he added.

CP Rakesh Agrawal informed the DGP that, earlier, the Counselling Centre was functioning from four zonal offices located at random buildings, which were in dilapidated conditions. The renovation work was completed with the efforts of the JCP, J Elanchezian and DCP Ashwani Kapur, he added.

Commending the Commissioner of Police Rakesh Aggarwal and his team for stridently working towards ensuring efficient delivery of services to people, the DGP exhorted them to come up with more such ventures for overall betterment of our families of brave police force.
