Ludhiana, September 16, 2026: Former Punjab Pradesh Congress Committee (PPCC) general secretary and Ex Chairman of the Punjab Large Industrial Development Board, Pawan Dewan, has declared that the tenure of the AAP government will be remembered in Punjab’s history as one written in “black letters”. Branding it as one of the “worst regimes” ever, Dewan said, “Water, electricity, roads, sewerage and streetlights are the basic facilities a government is duty bound to provide but tragically, the people of Punjab are enduring a harrowing time as the administrative machinery has collapsed and citizens are left struggling for even these essentials.”
In a hard hitting statement issued, here today, Dewan pointed out that accidents have become a daily routine because of the pathetic condition of roads. “Majority of streetlights are non functional, domestic as well as industrial consumers are bearing the brunt of prolonged power cuts and the sewerage system has collapsed to such an extent that even a short spell of rain is enough to trigger overflow and backflow, denying residents the right to breathe fresh air,” Dewan rued.
Dewan said hundreds of people meet him daily to share their ordeal. “Be it Municipal Corporation or PSPCL, our pockets are burnt paying hefty bills and taxes, yet when it comes to services, residents are forced to run from pillar to post,” he remarked. He added that besides these failures, the green cover is depleting and parks are degenerating into jungles. Punjab, he said, has never seen such a grim situation, where the government stands paralyzed
“The government has miserably failed to deliver on its promises—24x7 water supply, proper roads, uninterrupted electricity, a functional sewerage system, cleaning of Buddha Nullah, addressing industrial concerns and even the basic upkeep of parks and streetlights—all remain unfulfilled, exposing a complete collapse of governance”, said Dewan. Taking up crucial issue of garbage, Dewan said, “There is no door to door collection as promised nor have big dustbins been provided. Life of people has been turned into a virtual hell. Can Mann explain what exactly this government is doing?” he asked pointedly.
Turning to law and order, Dewan lashed out at the Bhagwant Mann led regime for presiding over gang wars, grenade attacks and murders that have become routine. Referring to the tragic suicide of Gulzar Singh, he alleged, “When people are driven to such desperate steps because of ministerial excesses, the state is clearly sliding into anarchy.” He added that the curse of drugs has destroyed an entire generation of youth, while the government shamelessly issues daily statements claiming law and order is improving and the drug menace has been tackled.
Dewan further rued that all sections of society including employees, teachers, doctors, professionals are living miserable lives under this “corrupt government”. Concluding his statement, he said, “Under the leadership of PPCC president Amarninder Singh Raja Warring, the Congress has now hit the streets to expose all the wrongdoings and failures of a government that is busy issuing fake advertisements worth crores, even as Punjab’s economy lies on ventilator.”
