Chandigarh, May 29, 2026: Former Deputy Chief Minister of Punjab and Member of Parliament from Gurdaspur, Sukhjinder Singh Randhawa, thanked the people of Punjab for the Congress Party’s impressive performance in the municipal elections, stating that this victory is not merely an electoral result but a triumph of democracy, truth, and people’s power. He said that despite the Aam Aadmi Party government misusing power throughout the elections, encouraging violence, and attempting to crush democratic values, Congress workers did not lose courage, and the people stood firmly with the truth.
Randhawa said that if the elections had been conducted in a fair environment without the misuse of official power, Congress’s victory would have been even bigger and historic. He added that the people of Punjab have sent a clear message that they are tired of false propaganda, advertisements, and political drama. The public now wants politics based on work and truth, which only Congress can provide.
Randhawa said that incidents of violence were reported in several cities and areas of Punjab during the elections. Attempts were made to intimidate and threaten Congress candidates and workers. In many places, Congress supporters were assaulted, their vehicles were targeted, and even life-threatening attacks took place. He alleged that hooliganism continued openly under the protection of those in power, but Congress workers did not bow down. He said that the people of Punjab were watching everything and responded to this arrogant government through the power of their vote.
He further alleged that the Aam Aadmi Party used the government machinery entirely as a political weapon. Administrative officials were pressured, the police machinery was misused, and attempts were made to influence the fair election process. Complaints were received from several places that Congress supporters were prevented from reaching polling booths, but despite all this, Congress fought strongly and delivered an impressive performance.
Launching a sharp attack on the BJP, he said that the party’s performance was completely disappointing. Even urban voters now seem to be distancing themselves from the BJP. The people of Punjab did not fall for BJP’s deception, and in most places, the party forfeited its security deposits.
Randhawa said that the Congress Party will always continue its struggle to protect democracy, the Constitution, and the interests of Punjab. Praising the courage and dedication of Congress workers, he said that those who kept the party flag flying high despite threats, violence, and attacks are the real strength of Congress. The people of Punjab have proved that politics based on fear and pressure cannot survive for long.
