Ludhiana: A deputation of Punjab Pradesh Beopar Mandal (PPBM) accompanied by Congress MLA Rakesh Pandey met the deputy commissioner Varinder Kumar Sharma today.

The mandal's state general secretary Sunil Mehra said that the deputation demanded that the shopkeepers of Ludhiana be allowed to open their shops from 5am to 5pm as has been allowed in 23 other districts of the state. Presently, the timing for opening of shops in Ludhiana is from 5am to 12pm, resulting in business activities suffering adversely and shopkeepers facing loss of revenue.

Listening to the deputation, the deputy commissioner assured that the local shopkeepers would be given some more relaxations next week. "As such, we are hopeful that the local administration will accede to our demand of allowing shopkeepers to open their shops till 5pm", said Mehra in a statement.

Mehra said the deputy commissioner also apprised them that the number of corona cases were reducing in Ludhiana. The DC assured them that more relations would be given as the situation improved, he added.

Rajiv Arora, Ashwani Mahajan, Harkesh Mittal and Yogesh Gupta were among those present.
