Chandigarh, March 28, 2019: Department of Sanskrit, Panjab University organised an Inter-university Declamation Contest. Essay writing, speech and Shloka recitation were organised in which a good number of students from various institutions participated.
Dr.Someshwar Datt, director of the Haryana Sanskrit Academy, Dr.Vibha Aggarwal, Director of Indic and Indological Studies, Kurukshetra University, Dr.Vikram Kumar Viveki, former professor at the department, graced the occasion.
The judges of the event were Dr.Devi Singh, professor at the GGDSD College, Chandigarh and Radha Devi, research scholar at the department. Dr. Datt appreciated students for their participation, and promised support to the department regarding such events. Dr. Vikram emphasised the use of Sanskrit language as a medium of conversation. Dr. Vibha Aggarwal called for united efforts for the growth & promotion of Sanskrit. Chairperson Dr. Alankar told how poetic meters of Sanskrit language or chhandas have been used in various bollywood songs, and how the popular song ‘Mere rashke kamar’ is composed in a meter which matches with the Sragvini meter. The event ended with prize distribution and a vote of thanks by the chairperson Prof. V.K.Alankar. Result of the Contest is as follows:
