Jalandhar, February 24, 2026: The Department of Music Vocal of PCM S.D. College for Women, Jalandhar, in collaboration with SPIC MACAY, organized an International Seminar in the college premises.
The seminar featured the eminent Dhrupad maestro, Ustad F. Wasifuddin Dagar, a distinguished exponent of the illustrious Dagar lineage and a recipient of the prestigious Padma Shri award.
The seminar commenced with a formal welcome by Principal Dr Pooja Prashar.
The speaker was introduced as a torchbearer of India’s ancient and meditative Dhrupad tradition. In his scholarly and engaging address, Ustad Dagar elaborated on the historical evolution, spiritual depth, and technical nuances of Dhrupad music. He emphasized the importance of discipline, breath control, and emotional immersion in rendering this timeless art form. Through illustrative demonstrations and insightful commentary, he captivated the audience and illuminated the philosophical essence underlying classical music.
Students and faculty members participated enthusiastically, gaining valuable exposure to the subtleties of Indian classical heritage. The interaction session provided a rare opportunity for aspiring musicians to seek guidance from a maestro of global repute. It is worth mentioning that Shri Kiran Seth is the esteemed founder of SPIC MACAY, also a Padma Shri awardee.
The seminar concluded with a vote of thanks to the esteemed guest, organizers, and collaborators for orchestrating such an enriching academic and cultural experience. The stage was efficiently conducted by Dr Arupriya Seen.
