Department of Indian Theatre, PU celebrated International Women's Day today

Chandigarh, March 8, 2022: Department of Indian Theatre, Panjab University has celebrated International Women's Day today. The celebrations started with the blessings of Hon'ble Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Raj Kumar. Dr. Navdeep Kaur, Chairperson of the Department addressed everyone and expressed her happiness about performing and celebrating International Women's Day in the department.

Prof. Renu Thakur, the chief guest of the event, talked about how every day is women's day. How equality is important for the society and the community. How not only women but also men are equally important in the society. It is not the people but the mentality we need to change. She also mentioned about how theatre being a very powerful and most relevant mediums can bring the awareness about this year's theme "Gender equality today for a sustainable tomorrow"

Anmol Joshi, student gave a speech on the International Women's Day. He talked about the history of the International Women's Day, who and how the celebration of this particular Day Started.

Manisha, second year student of the department performed a solo performance “Mann Ki Ichha" in which she represented the suppressed Desires of a Girl.

Shubham, a second year student who mentioned some great women and their aspiring stories and struggles they faced.
           
After that students - Shivangi (Second Year student) & Julie Chowdhry ( First Year Student) performed a dramatic visualisation of the poem "IK MULAQAT" written by a famous poetess Padma Vibhushan Amrita Pritam.
