Department of Anthropology, Panjab University Organises Induction-cum-Counselling for Newly Admitted Students

Chandigarh, August 26, 2026: The Department of Anthropology, Panjab University, Chandigarh, organised the first session of its Career Counselling Series on wednesday, at the Seminar Hall of the department. The session was organised as an initiative to familiarise students, particularly the induction batch, with the diverse scope, career opportunities and professional pathways available in the field of Anthropology. The programme was coordinated and anchored by Ms. Gauri Sharma, a postgraduate student of the department.
The session was conducted in the presence of Dr. J.S. Sehrawat, Head of the Department, along with Dr. Kewal Krishan. The department also welcomed esteemed guest faculty members Dr. Avanee Khatri, Dr. Jagriti Mehta and Dr. Bahadur Singh, who shared their valuable insights, perspectives and experiences with the students. Dr. Sehrawat highlighted the wide-ranging opportunities available to students of Anthropology across various academic, research and professional domains, ranging from traditional methods to artificial intelligence, data science, advanced imaging and genomics. The session provided students with an opportunity to understand the relevance of Anthropology beyond the classroom and gain a broader perspective on the possible career pathways associated with the discipline.
An interactive session was also conducted, allowing students to raise their questions and queries regarding higher education, career opportunities and the scope of Anthropology. The discussion encouraged students to actively engage with the speakers and explore the possibilities available within the field.
This session marked the beginning of a series of career counselling sessions to be organised by the department. The programme concluded on a positive note, with students and faculty members actively participating in the initiative.
