Department-cum-Centre for Women’s Studies & Development, Panjab University Celebrates Lohri and Makar Sakranti with a Message of Gender Equality
The Department-cum-Centre for Women’s Studies & Development, Panjab University, celebrated the festival of Lohri and Makar Sakranti with great enthusiasm, reinforcing the values of gender equality and social inclusion. The event was organised under the leadership of Prof. Rajesh Kumar Chander, Chairperson, who highlighted the importance of celebrating cultural traditions while promoting progressive social values.
Chandigarh, January 14, 2026: The Department-cum-Centre for Women’s Studies & Development, Panjab University, celebrated the festival of Lohri and Makar Sakranti with great enthusiasm, reinforcing the values of gender equality and social inclusion. The event was organised under the leadership of Prof. Rajesh Kumar Chander, Chairperson, who highlighted the importance of celebrating cultural traditions while promoting progressive social values.
The celebrations witnessed active participation from Prof. Pam Rajput, Prof. Manvinder Kaur and Dr. Ameera Sultana, along with faculty members from the Centre for Police Administration, Centre for Human Rights and Duties, Centre for Social Work, and the Department of Life Learning and Extension, etc. The Research scholars, office staff, and students of all the Departments also joined the festivities, making the event a vibrant and inclusive gathering.
Traditional Lohri rituals were observed, symbolising warmth, unity, and collective harmony. Emphasis was laid on reinterpreting cultural celebrations through a gender-sensitive lens, underscoring equality, respect, and shared responsibility in society.
