In order to instil a sense of security among voters ahead of the voting day on June 1, District Election Officer (DEO) Sakshi Sawhney on Thursday led a flag march of the Punjab Police in various areas of the city.

Ludhiana, May 23, 2024: In order to instil a sense of security among voters ahead of the voting day on June 1, District Election Officer (DEO) Sakshi Sawhney on Thursday led a flag march of the Punjab Police in various areas of the city. 

The flag march started from Millerganj Police post to Janta Nagar chowk via Gill Chowk.
 
Speaking with the media after the flag march, Sawhney said that drones would be used to keep surveillance two days (48 hours) before of the voting. The campaigning would also come to an end during this period (48 hours before voting) and strict vigil will be kept.

She said that the district administration was duty-bound to maintain peace and law and order in the city. Flah marches are also a confidence building measures and more such flag marches would be held across the district in the coming days. She added that no anti-social element would be allowed to disturb the peace. 

DEO Sawhney called upon the people to exercise our vote without any fear and everyone should vote on June 1.

She said that entry points of the district have been completely sealed and it had been divided into special zones for security purposes.

Furthermore, she said that patrolling parties of CAPF and Punjab Police personnel had been deployed to patrol the area besides carrying out regular flag marches and foot marching by the security forces especially in the vulnerable areas as part of confidence-building measures.  
 
Reiterating commitment to hold free, fair and transparent elections, DEO Sawhney further said that police nakas, Flying Squad Teams (FSTs), Static Surveillance Teams (SSTs) and integrated Nakas by excise and CAPF have been established to keep a strict vigil across the district.
