Ludhiana, September 3, 2026: Following the direction of Hardeep Singh Mundian, Minister for Housing and Urban Development, the GLADA Chief Administrator, Vikas Hira, has shown zero tolerance toward unauthorized and unplanned development, with a special focus on illegal colonies. He stated that a special drive has been launched to take punitive action against those fleecing innocent residents under the garb of offering cheaper plots in unauthorized colonies that lack statutory sanction and compliance with government norms.
In compliance with demolition orders issued by the Additional Chief Administrator, GLADA, Ludhiana, against unauthorized colonies, a team comprising a Duty Magistrate, police force, and the enforcement team of the GLADA Regulatory wing demolished nine unauthorized colonies on Thursday in the villages of Dhandra and Manakwal by dismantling their roads and ongoing illegal constructions and structures on these sites. When developers failed to stop illegal construction work despite being served notices, a special team carried out the demolition drive, which went unopposed.
To check the mushrooming of illegal colonies at the initial stage, GLADA is planning more such drives in the upcoming weeks.
The Chief Administrator, GLADA, appealed to the general public not to purchase property, plots, or buildings in unauthorized colonies, as GLADA will not provide any facilities such as water supply, sewerage, or electricity connections. The list of approved and regularized colonies, along with their sanctioned maps, is available on the official website of GLADA and should be checked by prospective buyers before purchasing any property.
The Chief Administrator, GLADA-cum-Competent Authority, Ludhiana, stated that besides demolition drives, GLADA shall continue taking strict legal action under the Punjab Regional and Town Planning and Development Act against all persons involved in unauthorized development in Ludhiana district.
