The Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC) has suspended entry and exit facilities at six metro stations in central Delhi till 4 p.m. on Monday, citing security concerns, as the Congress-led INDIA bloc prepares to hold a protest march towards the Supreme Court.
New Delhi, Oct 12 (IANS) The Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC) has suspended entry and exit facilities at six metro stations in central Delhi till 4 p.m. on Monday, citing security concerns, as the Congress-led INDIA bloc prepares to hold a protest march towards the Supreme Court.
The Delhi Traffic Police have also issued an extensive advisory warning commuters of possible congestion and diversions across the national capital.
The latest restrictions come two days after authorities temporarily closed 45 metro stations in view of a protest organised by the Cockroach Janta Party (CJP).
In a post on social media platform X, the DMRC said, "Due to security reasons, the entry and exit at the following metro stations will remain closed from 06:00 AM till 04:00 PM on 12th October, 2026. Further the situation will be reviewed by the security agencies and necessary updates will be shared accordingly. However, interchange facility will remain available at all the concerned metro stations."
The Corporation said the situation would be reviewed by security agencies and further updates would be issued as necessary. However, interchange facilities would continue to operate at all six affected stations.
Meanwhile, the Delhi Traffic Police have cautioned that heightened security arrangements, metro restrictions and the impact of overnight rainfall could make road travel difficult for commuters in Delhi-NCR, particularly during the morning office rush.
In its advisory, the traffic police urged motorists to avoid unnecessary journeys through affected areas, follow diversion signs and comply with instructions issued by traffic personnel.
“Motorists are requested to avoid non-essential travel through affected areas, follow diversion signs and directions of traffic personnel, and cooperate with Delhi Traffic Police to ensure smooth traffic movement,” the police said in a post on X.
Traffic restrictions and possible diversions have been identified at around 30 locations across the national capital. These include the Shankar Road-Vande Mataram T-Point roundabout towards New Delhi, Dhaula Kuan Flyover, Jhandewalan roundabout, Panchkuian roundabout, Mandi House roundabout, Dr Dinesh Nandini Dalmia Chowk, Ram Charan Aggarwal Chowk, the Minto Road-Deen Dayal Upadhyay Marg intersection, Guru Nanak Chowk and the Chelmsford Road-Outer Circle Connaught Place T-Point.
Other locations likely to experience disruptions include the Bharion Road-MGM Ring Road T-Point, Lodhi Road Flyover, Neela Gumbad roundabout, Madarsa T-Point, Samrat Hotel roundabout, the Sardar Patel Marg-Panchsheel Marg intersection, the area beneath Bhikaji Cama Place and Moti Bagh flyovers, and the Ring Road-San Martin Marg T-Point.
The advisory also covers the Ashoka Road-Jantar Mantar Road roundabout, Windsor Palace roundabout, Tolstoy Marg-Janpath crossing, Rail Bhawan roundabout, Jai Singh Road-Sansad Marg crossing, the Outer Circle Connaught Place-Barakhamba Road T-Point, Gol Dak Khana roundabout, Patel Chowk roundabout, Jai Singh Road-Ashoka Road T-Point, RML Hospital roundabout and the Outer Circle Connaught Place-Sansad Marg T-Point.
The proposed march comes amid continuing opposition protests over alleged irregularities in the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of electoral rolls and demands for the removal of Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar. Leaders of several INDIA bloc parties are likely to participate in the demonstration.
Ahead of the march, Congress MP Rahul Gandhi shared a video on X alleging that young people who had participated in a peaceful protest in Delhi on Sunday were assaulted by police personnel and BJP workers.
“Yesterday, the nation's young came out in Delhi to peacefully protest. They came with love in their hearts, not hatred or anger. They were beaten, both by cops and BJP goons. This is not the India we want,” Gandhi had said.
