Delhi CM Rekha Gupta asks citizens to enjoy Commonwealth TT event from tomorrow

New Delhi, July 26 (IANS) On the eve of hosting 22nd Commonwealth Table Tennis Championship 2026, Delhi Chief Minister Rekha Gupta on Sunday invited citizens to make the most of the live action and join the mega sporting event.
In a message on social media platform X, Chief Minister Gupta said, "From July 27, Delhi becomes the home of the 22nd Commonwealth Table Tennis Championship 2026. For seven days, Thyagraj Stadium will bring together athletes from 25 Commonwealth nations for a showcase of world-class table tennis, exceptional skill and sporting excellence."
"Delhiites are invited to witness the action live and cheer the athletes as the capital hosts one of the Commonwealth's premier sporting events," she added.
On July 14, the Chief Minister had unveiled 'Mayur', the official mascot of the 22nd Commonwealth Table Tennis Championships 2026.
During the ceremony, she also launched the much-awaited official trailer of the championship.
Highlighting the symbolic significance of the mascot, the Chief Minister said that 'Mayur' is inspired by India's national bird and embodies energy, enthusiasm, vibrancy and positivity.
She noted that the peacock's feathers beautifully incorporate the national flags of all participating countries, reflecting the spirit of 'Vasudhaiva Kutumbakam' (The World is One Family) and the universal message of sportsmanship.
The grand event was attended by Delhi Education Minister Ashish Sood, office-bearers of the Table Tennis Federation of India (TTFI) and the Commonwealth Table Tennis Federation, representatives from various countries, players, distinguished members of the sporting fraternity, and a large number of young people.
Expressing pride over Delhi being chosen to host the prestigious international championship, Chief Minister Gupta said the event is a testimony to the national capital's modern sports infrastructure, exceptional organisational capability and unwavering commitment to global sports.
She said that Delhi has a proven track record of successfully hosting major sporting events, from the Asian Games to the Commonwealth Games.
